My Childhood Culinary Idols

One of my early childhood memories was playing in the mud in the planter in front of our house. I had a spoon, a bowl, and I think a measuring cup. One of our neighbors came over to visit and asked me “are you making mud pies?” I said “No, I’m making Julia Child food”. This is how I cut my teeth. Also many episodes of Jacques Pepin, Graham Kerr, (The Galloping Gourmet), Justin Wilson, (The Cooking Cajun) And Lydia Bastianich the queen of Italian cuisine. All of these shows were on PBS. This was way before the days of the internet. If you wanted a recipe you either had to read a cookbook or refer to your Moms or Grandmas Better Homes and Gardens box, recipe file index. Cooking in the 70’s at its finest.
